Darkness at the Edge of Town

What is a little cold and darkness have to do with a good image?
When you have a creative idea,an assistant and a willing subject, the final results can be spectacular. This is an image of Devin. He is an up and coming music producer in the Leigh Valley area. Devin was great to work with and we created some interesting images. Two sunpak 120J’s were used to create the light on Devin.

Devin

Night time photography is always challenging ESPECIALLY in the cold !!! I was hired by an up and coming music producer to create some images for his new website. Focusing in the dark is impossible. With the help of my assistant and off camera flash, I was able to create this image.

Cabin Fever Revisited

Cabin Fever

This was one of my favorite images. Using an off camera flash with a blue gel, I was able to really bring out a dramatic and colorful image.

Cabin Fever !!!!

So what the heck do you do on a cold winter day in Pa and you have Cabin Fever?  Well you can always Google the term. Thank goodness I found something !!! So it was watching the movie Cabin Fever or going to Crystal Cabin Fever in Lakeville Pa. I decided to go later in the day. I expected to see fewer people.

After going to Blue Mountain a few weekends ago, I wanted to challenge myself taking images of ice. It’s not the easiest assignment. Ice has a high reflectivity so I brought along my two remote flashes with a blue gel and trek pod. I wish I had my other stuff… Anyway I was able to get some great  images.

A little about this gem. These guys are really creative an put an enormous about of time into their passion. Free hot chocolate.. art… ice slides..friendly people and chainsaws !!!! A true combination for a great afternoon.

Blue Mountain Winter Festival 2010

This festival at Blue Mountain ski in Pa was held on one of the coldest weekends of the year !!!!! It is cold doing anything in this type of condition. There were a variety of activities to be enjoyed by all. Dog sledding, ice carving, snow sports , food and beverage vendors, musical entertainment, and snow sports demonstrations.

I have to say I enjoyed the ice carving the most. It is a true art form. Too bad it melts !!!!
